Anti-AIDS drugs:

Abacavir is an antiviral drug with anti-HIV effects. It was successfully developed by the British company Glaxo-Wellcome. In 1998, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it for marketing. The product Named Ziagen, this product is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI). Like other nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, it is an inactive prodrug that is converted into an active form by cellular kinases in the human body. The active metabolite carbovir triphosphate is an analog of deoxyguanosine triphosphate (dGTP). It competes with the latter or integrates with the embedded viral DNA, inhibits the activity of HIV reverse transcriptase, and causes the integrated nucleoside to be generated. Defects that stop viral DNA replication. Studies have shown that this product is effective when combined with other nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors such as didanosine, zalcitabine, lamivudine and stavudine. Additive effect. There is a synergistic effect when combined with zidovudine. This provides a new triple therapy method for the treatment of HIV infection, and also allows protease inhibitors and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors to remain selective in clinical medication.
